Firm or plush? I like a firm pillow but reviews for the Linen Spa say its very firm to the point of not bending and thin so I’m wondering if High Loft plush might be a better choice for me in that particular pillow? I started treatment for my neck in January with the xray showing my neck curvature a grade three well on its way to grade 4. Head was 3.8 degrees forward, some spurs, fusing and now I’m at 3.1 degrees forward of where it should be. Progress!
I would agree that the Linen Spa version of the latex pillow is slightly more firm upon arrival than the Z by Malouf, however, after using it for a week, it softened up just fine. So if you’re looking to save money, I wouldn’t et that initial firmness dissuade you from buy one the Linen Spa.
Thank you, my pillow is on its way!
I am 30 years old and have mild scoliosis which was diagnosed when I was 15. Lately, I have been waking up every morning (usually after 6 hours of sleep) with lower back pain and have to get up and move around, take Advil ect. I know most of this is because at some point at night I end up on my stomach. I am working to change that. I think another reson is my mattress. It is a memory foam and about 6 years old but I think it is too firm. Could there be a correlation between the firmness of a mattress and back aches? Even if I do not sleep on my stomach I am still having some back pain in the morning (although it is worse when I am on my stomach).
Jaime, it’s likely the memory foam mattress, but not because it’s “too firm.” Memory foam beds create a “sleeping in a ditch” type of effect that can wreak havoc on the spine.
Hi Dr. Tanase! I was wondering what you think of the Sleep EZ Roma mattress? (https://hec.su/cK8s) It has two 3″ layers of Dunlop latex, so the mattress is firm on one side (40ILD), and medium plush on the other (28 ILD). Then the cover is 1.5″ on each side of flex foam, making the bed a total of 9″ thick. How would you rate this as compared to the Ultimate Dreams Latex?
Connie, I haven’t personally tried it, but nothing about it seems out of the ordinary. Give it a try!
I have an extremely difficult time getting in a comfortable neck position when I try to go to sleep. What firmness do you recommend for the latex mattress topper? I read that the firmer ones should NOT be used as the top layer but instead the base layer. What do you think?
Also, I have a shredded latex pillow and feel that it’s too high. I even took out some of the latex but I find it’s still too high. I see that you recommended the low/firm latex pillow. I think the ‘low’ one would work for me. But I am concerned that the ‘firm’ might be too firm for my neck. I had an MRI and was told that I have a disc bulge at c-4/c5 area or was it c5/c6?? What kind of pillow should I get? firm or soft? Help!!!!
Ozzy, I’d stick with the “firm” latex option for both pillows and mattress toppers.
Hello,
I bought also a latex mattress topper, I sleep very well on it, except that it gets too hot.
What do you recommend for cooling it?
Thanks,
Lucian.
Lucian,
Dry-Fit sheets, sleeping in a cold environment (heater off, or AC on), and not using a down feather comforter will help.
Thank you!
I like your website and the recommendation for latex products.
